What is Reiki Certification?

A Reiki certificate validates and certifies that a student completed one of three levels in the Usui System of Reiki training. Everyone must begin at the first level and be taught by a certified member of the Usui System of Reiki, also titled Usui Shiki Ryoho. They should have been given a certificate by a Reiki Master Level Teacher (RMT) for completion of each of the first two levels, Reiki I and Reiki II. A Reiki Master Level Teacher should be able to trace their lineage back to an original Reiki Master taught by Grand Master Hawayo Takata from 1947 through 1980. There are many Reiki groups and numerous individuals who teach the three Reiki levels in the United States and abroad. Most members of these groups are trained in the Usui Shiki Ryoho system of Reiki. Usui Shiki Ryoho means the Usui System of Universal Light Energy.

How to obtain Reiki Class Certificates

Anyone interested in obtaining a Reiki I certificate may do so by taking a Reiki class from a qualified Reiki instructor. Reiki is not difficult to learn or limited to a select few people. Reiki cannot be taught by just anyone; it is necessary to receive extensive training in order to teach the system. There are many organizations, schools and individuals currently teaching Reiki. Courses are taught in three levels with the first two levels consisting of at least two sessions each, with attunements given in each level.

As stated in its organizational purpose, REI wants to maintain the integrity of Reiki certification and help validate the certification of Reiki practitioners and teachers.

Costs for Reiki I classes usually range from $60 to $300. REI believes that finding a qualified teacher is more important than searching for the lowest or highest price.

Anyone interested in obtaining a Reiki I certificate may do so by taking a Reiki I class from a qualified Reiki I instructor. REI will provide you with a referral or help find someone in your area who is a qualified teacher, or help you organize a class in your area that will be taught a a recognized REI Reiki Master Level Teacher.
